Torch Parade for the Olympics at Somerset

Somerset students are having their own Olympics! Some of the many special activities the children are experiencing include:

Each classroom at Somerset represents one of the participant countries at the 2010 Games in Canada. Students have made flags and researched their countries. They are graphing their medal count, writing about athletes, skyping with other countries and making keynote presentations.

On Wednesday, Feb. 10th we had the Somerset Torch Run to get ready for the Olympics. The office, better known as Greece, passed the torch to various teams of students that brought the torch to the Somerset Olympic Stadium.

The Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics were wonderful. Students paraded in as their countries. The Olympic flag was presented and the Sibley Winter Guard performed. Somerset alum Laura Hess lit our cauldron.
Luge and speed skating Somerset style are some of the events in this week's physical education classes. Next week students will be bobsledding and skiing on carpet squares.

Many thanks to Mrs.Westman and all our wonderful teachers for bringing the Olympics to Somerset!
